1)  Y-DNA TEST RESULTS:

Participant Identification:  Participants have been given a 3 part number, such as for example A12 B1C1A12 is the individual participant's identification number/ B1 is the known "paper trail" family the participant comes from/ C1 refers to a specific haplotype match, or near match.  In addition, "Y" numbers are given to represent unknown common ancestors of family groups, and "Z" numbers given to known common ancestors of family groups.  For "Y" and "Z" ancestors, when sufficient information is available, projections will be made of their haplotypes.   Some "X" and "Q" numbers are included.  These are for persons of surnames which "possibly" derive from early forms of Marsh, or potentially related just before surnames came into use, which have been included if their DNA looks close enough to Marsh participants to warrant further investigation.

Haplogroups:  Haplogroups are primary subdivisions of the family tree of mankind, and are determined by testing SNPs.  SNPs are a special kind of DNA markers which are extremely slow mutating, and in most cases have only mutated once in the history of mankind. Haplogroups shown in green, are determined by SNP tests, those shown in red, are estimated only.

Haplotypes:  The term "haplotype" is often used in genealogical DNA.  A haplotype is simply the list of Y-DNA marker scores for an "individual person".

NOTE:  There are now over 100 Y-DNA markers which some participants have been tested on.  A full results table with all markers is shown at...

This is a large table, and may take a while to download for people without fast internet connections.

Group C1 all tracing to West Wratting in Cambridgeshire, England.  Family B1 ancestor = John Marsh b. 1787, Family B20 ancestor = Thomas Marsh b. circa 1670.  It is possible that Y1 the unknown common ancestor of families B1 and B20 may be Thomas Marsh b. circa 1670.  There is evidence of a Marsh/ March family living in West Wratting probably as far back as the 1400s. A79 is almost certainly unrelated to group C1.   A77 is a Marsh tracing to Suffolk.  Q212 is a de Marco from Italy.  Perhaps de Marco derives from de Marisco?? A83 is a Marsh tracing to Ashdon Essex.
