R1b1b2
(A1 tested S116+) |
Group C1:Marshes generally tracing
to Cambridgeshire, England, and surrounding areas.
Family B1: ancestor = John
Marsh b. 1787 West Wratting. Family B20: ancestor = Thomas Marsh b. circa
1670, lived West Wratting. Family B78:
traces to Gt Bradley Suffolk, about 5 miles
from West Wratting. Family B96 is from
Burwell Cambridgeshire.
Family B103: descends
from James Marsh & Anne Radford living at Cambridge City shortly
after 1800. Family B102:
is a different surname to Marsh, but could conceivably derive
from one of the very early variants of Marsh. The close
Y-DNA match of A102 to the C1 group
suggests a relationship just before or just after surnames came
into use, so the match on locus 65, and miss-match on locus 47
could suggest locus 65=12
may be the older mutation, and locus 47=9
may be more recent. A
hypothetical possibility being investigated is that A102 relates
to others in group C1 very close to 1,000 years go, which is
suggested by circumstantial evidence. [There is
evidence of a Marsh/ March family living in West Wratting
as far back as the 1400s. A Simon de Merc (Marsh) owned land at "Wratting" in the 1100s.]
Z1 is John Marsh b.1787. Y1
the unknown common ancestor of families B1, B20 and B96 may be Thomas
Marsh b. circa 1670.
There is a suggestion that a Marsh family
B83 of Ashdon Essex may descend from a Marsh living at West Wratting
in the 1500s, but preliminary DNA tests indicate that the Ashdon
Marshes "probably" do not relate to West Wratting Marshes in
this time frame.
Locus 44=11
& 47=9
& 65=12,
are rare in haplogroup R1b1b2, and in
some cases matches on these markers may be significant.
Q240 Milam is one of the closer matches of different
surnames to Marsh, and is undoubtedly related "more" than a
1,000 years ago. It is useful to consider this haplotype
though, as it might give a hint as to the ancestral haplotype of
the Marsh/ Milam common ancestor perhaps something like 2,000
years ago. If this hint were correct, then DYS385a=12 and
DYS607=14 may be the older distinctive mutations in the C1 Marsh
Group ancestral line and all related Marshes to Group C1 should
most likely have these two mutations. |
Locus 08=29 &09=25 are uncommon.
Note, there are
calibration differences between companies on some of these
markers. |
Calibration as adjusted 29 March
2007.
