TREE- ALEXANDER MARSH OF BRAINTREE MA:

This tree has been complied from a number of separate internet sources by the Project Administrator.  It is not a complete tree.  Nothing has been verified.   It's purpose is to identify possible male lines to find DNA project participants.  A descendant of Alexander Marsh is currently preparing a more comprehensive family tree for this family.

Several alternative theories exist as to the origins of Alexander Marsh.  One is that Alexander was a nephew of George Marsh of Hingham Norfolk England.  This is a theory which should be able to be coroborated by DNA testing, as there are descendants of George living who could be tested at some time.   Other theories are that he was the Alexander Marsh born at West Wratting in Cambridgeshire in 1626, or that he was born at Pontypool in Wales.  I believe there are also other theories.  The proliferation of theories would seem to indicate that it is a good case for DNA testing.  One descendant of Alexander has been tested.   Testing more descendants would enable predictions of the DNA profile of Alexander, and this would assist in determining which family or location Alexander traces back to.   Testing descendants of  George Marsh of Hingham Norfolk England is an obvious priority, as a match of DNA would be a strong indicator.

In the Book  "John Marsh of Hartford, Ct. 1636-1895" by Dwight Whitney Marsh, it states several notable Marshes that descend from Alexander Marsh.   They include:
Sylvester Marsh...""inventing wheat dryers that made his fortune in Chicago"
Hon. Thomas Allen of St. Louis..."became President of the Iron Mt. Railroad"
Benjamin Marsh...founded a Department store called "Jordan and Marsh".    I have a reprint of their 1891 catalog.
L. Milton Marsh of New York City..."Head of a very wide and benevolent Sabbath-school work"
Rev. Theodore H. Marsh..."Superintendent of Home Missions at Grand Rapids for the Synod of Michigan"

       Others have speculated different origins for Alexander, including Cambridgeshire
